Last week Toni Braxton dropped a bombshell during an exercise with Iyanla Vanzant on Braxton Family Values, revealing she doesn’t like her family at all and now the 51-year-old singer is making another confession — her sisters held her back professionally.
“When the career thing happened for me it was a bad thing. I remember when I told my sisters they were crying. My sister Traci was the one who said to me, ‘you know when you make it you can help us. I always tried to abide by it but the responsibility of it was so heavy.”
The oldest Braxton has always been vocal about feeling pressured to bring her sisters along for the ride of her two-decade-long career so it’s not incredibly shocking that she feels as if she might’ve been more successful had she not had to be responsible for them, a fact she confirmed when Vanzant asked what life would look like without them.
“I would’ve soared higher. I’m very clear.”
